Hello Local Lodge 1781 Members & Friends,

We have received very enthusiastic responses to our latest issue of Tradewinds (TRW) Women in Aviation feature. You can access TRW on our website www.local1781.org

A few moments ago, UAL Stores retiree Catherine 'Kay' Wacker called to say that "I thought you were writing about me as I read the stories of women."

Kay was hired at UAL Stores in 1946 before the troops returned home. Management told her that "you are the last woman we are hiring in Stores and your employment will end as soon as the men get home."

"Well," Kay told me, "I didn't say anything,  I just kept on working, they kept on paying me and that was fine with me until I retired in 1979."

Now a healthy, vibrant and active 93 years old, Kay lives in Redding, California, and fondly remembers her years working as a storekeeper.

It was a pleasure speaking with Catherine 'Kay' Wacker, she represents so very well the generation of women workers that deserves much belated-recognition for their achievements.

In Solidarity,

Carl Finamore
